Congratulations to our 2015 Teacher Grant Recipients!

We are pleased to announce the recipients of our 2015 Teacher Grant Award. The credit union began this program in an effort to assist their members who are educators in funding equipment, supplies or training.

The recipients are:

“Students successfully created 3D MARS Rover Models (one is pictured). They  had the opportunity to design, invent and explore using computer technology and were able to see their design move through the stages of development."

Oletha Walker, Challenge Resource Teacher at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Windsor, CT. Ms. Walker used the grant funds to purchase a 3D printer to be used with NASA STEM lessons that use the Design Process of inventors and engineers. The final activity had teams presenting a 3D Rover Launch off the school rooftop. The winner presented their design and findings at a Town Meeting.

“Thank you for your generous contribution to my classroom. My students have benefited greatly from access to the High Interest - Low Level books.”

Caitlin Heintz, Special Education Teacher at Somers Elementary School in Somers, CT. Ms. Heintz used the grant funds to purchase High Interest/Low Level Books for students with disabilities. These books assist students who are not reading at grade level to access content and vocabulary that are age appropriate but are written at their individual reading level.
